"that group"?

Are you referring to the ASUN or the SLC? (just trying to be clear)

I can kind of understand it for the FB schools--but why would UTA go along? Options still remain the WAC, SLC, and maybe the MVC calls again since they are losing one (Missouri St.). Would not want to be the only Texas school Left is the only reason I can see or maybe afraid if things Really got bad they would have no conference home.

I wonder how bad UTA admin would be kicking themselves if that ends up happening while pondering all the "what ifs?" that could have occurred if they would just add football... or would they still think they made the right call? I'm sorry y'all UTA bros have to go through all of this. We miss ya'll in the Belt.

Certain people in the Athletic Department might. Some are just anti-football, but some are pro. Regardless of where you sit, there’s no denying not having the sport is causing major issues in the realignment game. There’s no doubt historically that our peer schools are now SBC/AAC schools, but we are now essentially working with DII callups, as every realistic conference has at least two within the last decade. Sad really.

As for Missouri Valley, that door is likely ****. UTA didn’t have the votes from the public schools and the nearest school would be hours away. WAC worked because of the Texas additions. Conference would mean little outside of the standings.

This is great! I wonder how much it is. UTA press releases of this nature almost always reveal the size of the gift. Unrestricted is best of all. Likely added to endowment.

Congratulations to AD Jon Fagg for cultivating this gift and inspiring the confidence of Mr. Matthews.

I meant the ASUN as a potential landing spot but there are no schools in the SLC that are peer schools either. all smaller regional schools with lesser academic standing. not trying to be mean but it is what it is. UTA pretty high level academically but pretty low level in sports. we are not currently good in any sport we offer.

Bet they regret that decision.

I looked back at all the articles I could find on that and could not find one that said uta had said no. I thought the MVC just had them on a list of possibles and never extended an actual invite. I thought they invited murray state and UIC

Ahem. We're very good in several sports, especially Tennis, Track & Field and both men's and women's basketball. Perhaps you meant to indicate that we do not have athletics programs that are as excellent as other aspects of the university.

We are decent in a few sports, but overall we are subpar in athletics for a university of our size.

ok I'll give you track..we are kinda solid in track and usually have some high finishers and yes we won the wac in men's tennis but have only 1 player ranked in the top 100 and were not even competitive in our ncaa match against OU. with a large enrollment and decent facilities we should be what in baseball is called "a hard out" because even tho we cant sign the top players, our programs have the funds and staffing now to be able to field good solid teams in every sport. just my rant as a grad and long time fan.

Correct. The private schools wanted a look as they hoped a presence in DFW could increase enrollment. The public’s were out as a whole, meaning UTA could get in. The league requires a certain budget number and buy game hosts and UTA isn’t at that level.
