RE: Tarleton & ACU invited to 2024 CIT
ACU plays A&M CC in Stephenville Tuesday with the winner playing the winner of Tarleton vs Texas Southern on Wednesday, also in Stephenville.

Biggest question is will the games be streamed?

So, do the winners of the Lou Henson, Jim Phelan, Hugh Duram and John McLendon Classics play each other until we are down to 2 teams for a final game with the CIT? At least ACU isn't the team with the worst record in the tourney, almost but not quite.

Yes 4 pods play it out until the Finial 2. Hmmm…does make you wonder why ACU was selected over UtA. Especially when the Tarleton/UtA games were so closely contested this year. The unfortunate “events” of WAC Vegas may have had something to do with it.

I did think about that, yes. ACU was in the CIT in 2018 as well even though we were 1 & done I believe in OT against Drake.

We probably offered to pay to play. Just a guess

It would be really embarrassing if either Tarleton or ACU loses 1st round. Why does our "Classic" have 4 teams and the others only have 2...in one case there is a single team! I guess they win their classic by default. Also how do they decide where game is? Is it by record?

RE: Tarleton & ACU invited to 2024 CIT
Years ago, UVU paid to host the CIT first round, too. I'm told that will NEVER happen again. I'm sure a few seasons from now TSU won't be interested in the CIT (or CBI) anymore either, but for this transition year, paying to host/play in a tournament is better than nothing and helps set the tradition for post season play!
Disappointing that there's only 9 teams in the whole CIT now. And one of them gets a bye to the final four. Geez. Evidently a lot of teams just don't want to fork over the money to play in this tournament anymore. Good to see 2 wac teams still in action though. Best of luck to ya'll.

The whole tournament field:

All Times EST

LOU HENSON CLASSIC
Tuesday March 19
Texas Southern (16-16) vs. Tarleton State (23-9) 7:00pm
Abilene Christian (15-17) vs Texas A&M Corpus Christi (21-12) 9:00pm

JIM PHELAN CLASSIC
Wednesday March 20
Purdue Fort Wayne (21-12) vs Bowling Green (20-13) 7:00 pm

HUGH DURHAM CLASSIC
Wednesday March 20
Alabama A&M (11-22) vs. Austin Peay (19-15) 8:00 pm

JOHN MCLENDON CLASSIC
Saturday March 23
? vs. Norfolk State (22-11)

No, nice try IT, but as is so often the case, you’re off the mark. The school and team made a collective decision to forego playing in the postseason. They set a goal for the NCAA and are frustrated at the travesty of a championship.

Correct, CIT is play-to-play. UTA chose not to pay. ACU did. Tarleton chose to pay more to host.

The CIT is trying to get more teams, but the tourney is a money pit for most schools. The U’s involved usually pay for more games, practice and coaching. Many others who did it in the past feel it was not worth the price paid.

RE: Tarleton & ACU invited to 2024 CIT
Stephenville is just down the road and a little south of us, so an easy trip for ACU. The end of year winning streak was pretty cool since we beat Grand Canyon and CBU as well as Seattle and SFA... but I'm not sure why we wanted to play in the CIT unless it was the experience from the previous time. Following the last one we were in we won 27 games the next year. Knock on wood.

My only issue is if I get to watch it, will the referees drive me crazy. I got upset just watching UTA and GCU.

It won’t be WAC refs unless the rules changed. The CIT is responsible for providing them.

Still trying to decide if I can make it to the ACU/TAMCC game tonight or not. It should be a good one. I wonder how many from Corpus will be able to make it up.

RE: Tarleton & ACU invited to 2024 CIT
My experience has been that postseason games are rare and getting rarer all the time. Now that the Texas schools are in a conference where we have a collective 20% of making the NCAA’s in any given year, this will be the peak for most of us. These smaller tourneys can not fill their slots because the transfer portal opens and they are expensive for the schools. If you get a chance to see one, take advantage of it.

The portal needs to be closed until after the tournaments.

I would think that they would do this but my voice doesn't mean much. I hate seeing Tweets of transfers pretty much the day after a season is over.

CIT and CBI are nice post-season options for transitioning teams & fan bases. Enjoyed them while GCU was in transition, and now glad to be done with them.

Most of our recruiting was shored up, so unless we end up having to do extra because of the transfer portal, the CIB will be about giving our 5th and 6th year seniors some time, build up our young guys and hopefully redeem our schedule a little. It may help with recruiting but I don't think it will have much impact. The players wanted it, so...
